Retro Scooters

Some people say that old times were better. While I don’t agree completely with that statement, I do believe that it’s very true when it comes to Retro scooters.

Retro scooters are mainly based after the earlier Vespa and Lambretta models. And there’s a reason for that. These two models were the epitome of European transportation in the 50s and 60. They were seen in movies and magazines, and any European who was someone had to have one of those.

Even modern day Vespa still continues to produce older looking models, along with the new, more modern looking models. Why? Because Vespa knows that one of the many reasons people get a Vespa is their look. Of course, the Vespa retro scooters might look like they came from an old movie, their interiors and motors have the power and technology of the XXI century. In fact, people who aren’t familiar with the way these retro scooters are built inside get a pleasant surprise when they see how they perform on the road.

The Lambetta model is also considered in the family of retro scooters. Although the company unfortunately ran into financial problems in the 70s, the Lambetta model was purchased and lived on. There are several companies that produce it, for example, Scooters India, who bought the original Lambetta plant and moved it to India, as well as the Spanish Serveta, which sells licensed variations of the Lambetta model.

Of course, these two, while being the most representative of the retro scooters, aren’t the only ones. A lot of companies and manufacturers have started to sell modern scooters with earlier frames. These retro scooters are also called “classic,” and they try to appeal to the nostalgia of customers who grew with the old models, but with the benefits and technology of new scooters.

There are also some people who buy only “real” retro scooters. These retro scooters are the real thing. They were built decades ago and have little to none modifications. Most of these retro scooters are bought for collection only, and not for actual use, although their owners still like to demonstrate them to visitors, or even just for themselves. They can be very expensive, depending on their condition. Their price also increases if they still have the original parts, and any replacement reduces them in value. Needless to say, it’s very hard to find one that is truly 100% original. If you do, be prepared to pay a big amount for it.
