Rifles

For those who hunt, owning high quality rifles can make the difference between a successful kill and losing the target. There are many things that you should keep in mind when selecting your rifles, however. While the rule of 'you get what you pay for' applies when purchasing rifles, buying the most expensive rifle may not be the best choice for you.

Before you buy any rifles, you need to identify what you will be using the rifle for. You would not use the same style of rifle to hunt squirrels as you would to hunt moose. The rifle required to hunt a moose is a lot more powerful than the ones used to hunt squirrels. In fact, if you were to use a moose rifle to hunt squirrels, there would be nothing left of the squirrel but tufts of fur. A squirrel rifle, on the other hand, would only wound the moose, as the body mass of a moose is so much greater than that of a squirrel. While deer hunting rifles are much closer in power to moose hunting rifles, you would encounter similar problems. While you could succeed at deer with a moose rifle, it would take a very accurate shot to kill a moose with a deer rifle.

When you go to purchase your rifles, you should remember a few things. First, you must know the power, range and accuracy of the rifles. These are the aspects that will most affect your hunting. Once you have found the rifles that suit your needs in these three critical areas, you need to select a gun that you are comfortable with. Weight, feel and knock back are all things that you will want to know before you buy your rifles. You should never purchase a rifle that you cannot control. Being able to maintain stability through the knock back is important. As well, in order to shoot accurately, you must be able to hold the rifle steady.

Regardless of whether you are purchasing your rifles for shooting teams or for hunting, it is your responsibility to know and understand the gun laws in your area. Be prepared to present identification when purchasing or picking up your rifles, and ensure that you are aware of what types of rifles are allowed where you live or where you hunt and shoot. This will ensure that you can enjoy your rifles to the fullest.
